Give me some gas!

I’m not talking about body functions here just the fossil fuel. I was tinkering around with my S3 a few weeks ago and realized that my fuel fittings are of a plastic variety. I went around on the forums and they all say that it’s a good idea to change it as the plastic ones can get damaged. There was a recall and the dealer was supposed to change one set of fittings, I say one set because the other set would remain plastic, how lazy is that?! I guess they had their reasons and it could be that one set would be fine but not for me. I did my research and even asked my local Triumph shop about these and Chris was quite helpful. I went around and looked for the fittings that he suggested and I ordered the set that I would need, they are quite robust. I’ll be outfitting these on my bike soon, actually I’ll be doing some major wrenching on my bike so stay tuned.

Princess who?

It’s called Princess Auto and there is nothing very princessy about them. They deal in tools, farm equipment, more tools and more tools, I don’t know where the Princess part comes in but hey, they’re Canadian and the price is right.

I like tools because having the right tool(s) for the job makes the job easier and safer. A great example of this is when I learned that it’s best to use a “Flexible Flush Cutting Saw” than to try and use a small hand saw and bend it to try and cut a dowel flush to the surface, lots of swearing that day. Yes, I eventually bought a flexible flush cutting saw and it has paid itself over and over again whenever I do my wood working. Don’t know what I’m talking about, just Google it and you’ll see.

Back to Princess Auto. A friend of mine had a flyer from when he visited his sister in Ontario, the flyer was in his car and he said that he bought something there b/c it was cheap and not too bad in quality, it was a compromise he did not regret. I figure I would take a look at see what they’re all about. I spotted a few things that I needed so I ordered and I must say that it’s not too bad, a very decent compromise. I had to keep in mind that it’s not Snap On, Proto or the like but it was good enough for what I needed.  I ‘ve purchased a few things from them and I must say that delivery is prompt and phone service is great.

The bonus is that they have a few things that I didn’t know about and now that I know they’re that much better. They have a few tools that are made for motorcycles and I think that’s awesome for those who wrench their own bikes, scoots and atv’s. They don’t have front or rear wheel stands but they do have a lift and tire changers and a nice device for the rear wheel called a wheel roller. For anyone who does not have a rear wheel stand, well you know how frustrating it can be pushing your bike and spraying the chain, you get some weird looks. This little tool enables you to roll your rear tire on it so you can rotate the wheel, please remember that the kick stand must be down and bike in neutral when doing this, should be common sense but you never know. I’ve read about better brands like Easy Wheeler and sure they are probably better but if this can do the job then why not give it a try. It’s 54.99 CDN, Canadian that’s like 2 U.S dollars, ok, not really but you get the idea. My Proto Torque wrench cost me 200 CDN but that was before I discovered Princess Auto. I do like my torque wrench though.

I printed out an electrical diagram for my Speed Triple b/c I am planning on retrofitting some lights. I printed out the diagram on 11 x 17 paper and then proceeded to laminate it. I love it when things are laminated b/c I can drink my cocoa and not worry about damaging my print out, yup I drink cocoa. If I didn’t have the numbered keys and the wire color codes I would be miserable and very lost and probably wire things backwards and cause some serious damage and all the while sipping on cocoa. The diagram is clear albeit a bit crowded but hey it was free so I can’t complain. It’s actually easy to decipher and if you have a set of non-permanent acetate markers then you can trace your wires, that’s if it’s laminated. Another sip of cocoa.

I have a project in mind for the bike and if everything goes well, it will be completed before my trip to Parry Sound in July. This project requires a bit of electrical so some planning  is involved, it originally did not need any electrical but I wanted it to be more than basic so now it involves electrical work. Anyhoots, if everything works out the project will start soon and I will document it here on the site but until then, feel free to glance at my laminated 11×17 electrical diagram.

No swine please, really

Don’t you hate that word now, ” swine”. It used to be that when I heard that word I would often think of pigs or oink but that’s all changed. The word has taken on new meaning b/c of the flu. It has caused panic in some places and don’t say it didn’t b/c when I see people walking around with masks on, that to me is panic. They don’t have to be running around in a total mess to be panicked.

Poor pigs, they get a bad rap b/c of what has happened and the pork industry suffers too. I like pork, who doesn’t like a nice set of baby backs served up in front of them, vegans and vegetarians need not apply here. But really, pork, the other white meat has been damaged by this whole affair, they should have called it the H1N1 flu from the beginning. Someone should have known that by calling it the swine flu it was going to hurt the pork industry. Anyways, I have a set of masks at the ready in case things get bad, oh wait, those masks are for the renovations, silly me. I hope people don’t get the wrong idea when they see me sanding away and wearing a mask/ If anyone asks I’ll tell them that the voices in my head told me to wear it.

Don’t mind me…

Here is something that really bothers me and I am sure it bothers other people too, why do people put down an email address on their website if they are not going to reply to the emails. I have written a few emails to companies in regards to their products and services and I would say that only 20-40 percent ever respond. If the email seems stupid then at least let the person know, “sir we cannot help you because your question was stupid”.

I am working on a project and need certain supplies and goods, some of which I can find in the local shops and for some things I have to resort to online shopping. Here is where the problem starts, some online businesses are a little unclear and so as a customer, okay potential customer, I need to ask a question in regards to a product. I write and send an email expecting a reply, I will usually give it 48 hours max and its surprising how many places don’t respond or respond too late. If I had an online business I would check the email often just in case someone is requesting information on something.

I think that if I ever do anything online in terms of business I would then proceed to get a blackberry or raspberry or whatever fruity type of iPhone concoction they are making nowadays so that way I can reply on time to a potential customer.
