Yeah! What is it anyways?! The institution that I work for uses Desjardins for insurance purposes and I did too for my house and my car but I stumbled upon a problem. I went fishing around for motorcycle insurance because I figured why not use one insurance company for everything, house, car and moto. I figured they would have some sort of special rate for this but then found out that my motorcycle was not listed in their database. There must be a mistake I thought because the other insurance websites had Triumph listed but for some reason Desjardins did not. I did leave a question on their website in regards to why Triumph, Norton, Ducati and HD were not listed and they called me back.
The person at Desjardins explained that certain models of motorcycles are not covered by Desjardins and would only cover it under special conditions. Special conditions? What a crock full of crap. There is nothing on their website explaining this. The impression that I get from their explanation is you’re going to have to fork out even more money to get that specific brand insured. I told the person that it was silly, I can understand high risk and all that jazz but why the hell do they have an Excelsior Henderson listed but not Harley or Triumph. They also have Boss Hoss, Buell, Benelli, and Matchless listed; Matchless?! With the exception of the vintage bike owner, I personally don’t know anyone who scoots around on a Matchless?! A motorcycle is a motorcycle so why insure one model and not another.
The one thing I did note was the gentleman I was talking to. When he heard me say Triumph Motorcycles he did not know the brand, which really surprised me because working for an insurance company he should at least be familiar with the name. I think he looked it up while I was talking so he could get an idea of what I was talking about. Another one bites the dust I guess.

I realize that Jawa is still around in Europe but I thought it was still odd that they would have it listed when I personally don’t know anyone with a Jawa. The last time I saw one was a few years ago in Lachine and it was rusted beyond restoration.
