I really can’t make up my mind.
A few of my friends and I were talking one day and the topic was typical male stuff, women, sports, women, motorcycles, women, cars and that’s when eyes turned on me. My response was expected but not expected. Without getting into too much detail, the conversation was based on a hypothetical situation of us winning a few million dollars each and what sort of “dream vehicle” we would purchase with said amount of cash. The typical answers were the exotics like Ferrari, Aston Martin, Bentley, Ford GT40, Lambo and the like. Someone even threw in the Corvette just because. Now I agree, those are all fantastic dream cars but the ones I mentioned are how you would say, fun cars.
I believe that if you love to drive then you should get a car that is fun to drive. Those exotics mentioned are undoubtedly fun to drive but also costs quite a bit to have fun. No, the car(s) I had mentioned are somewhat exotic and fun to drive and the best part is, it can be bought by your average joe. Mind you the average joe would have to save his coin but it is achievable. So which cars did I choose? The Lotus Elise and Caterham Super 7.
When I look at these cars I think of the Hot Wheels that I had as a kid but even better because it’s a hot wheel that I can drive. Now these cars are still pricey but not as pricey as the other exotics. Sure, someone can argue that they can pick up a second hand Vette for cheap. It has gobs of horsepower and torque and an engine that sounds like 2 grizzlies fighting but I am not that kinda guy, anymore.
Lotus and Caterham for me is not about horsepower. Lotus and Caterham for me exudes a fun lifestyle. This is not to say that with the other sports cars you can’t have fun but whenever I see people in a Lotus Elise, it looks as though they are having more fun. I have seen a Caterham Super 7 once on my way home and that was all it took. I knew right away what it was and it looked as though the person was having fun. How many times can I write fun? Fun, fun, fun and more fun. But, I am faced with a problem. If I plan on purchasing then which one should it be.
It is not a problem in the true sense of the word. No, the problem can be solved with a flip of a coin, heads or tails but this not something that can be settled with a coin. No, the problem here is that I would like both but knowing that I can only choose one, just one. The other reality is that I can’t get one right now so there is a bit of time. Maybe during that time I’ll decide or maybe face another problem, another fun car may come along.
